To be clear: owned code with Stripe still carries Stripe's usual per-transaction card fee — every processor charges that — so the saving is the Shopify platform fee, app subscriptions and any Shopify transaction cut, not the card fee itself.
Honestly, it depends — and we'll tell you straight. If you're a high-volume store relying on Shopify's checkout, apps and ecosystem, the platform can be worth what it costs, and you may be better off staying. Yes. The migrated site is fully working, not a frozen snapshot. Forms are re-wired to a third-party handler (Formspree, Basin, Netlify Forms) so submissions still reach you after you leave, and carousels, galleries, lightboxes and menus are rebuilt cleanly so they keep working without the Shopify runtime.
Yes. Stripe charges the usual per-transaction card fee, exactly as every payment processor does — that cost doesn't vanish on any platform. What you drop by moving to owned code is Shopify's monthly platform fee, your paid app subscriptions, and any Shopify transaction cut charged on top when you don't use Shopify Payments.
Nothing changes about ownership. Your domain stays with your registrar; we point its DNS at free Cloudflare hosting, and you can move hosting anywhere, anytime.
